How To Beef Up Your Collection of Brett Favre Memorabilia: Buy His House.

I just can’t do the winters anymore.

Otherwise, I’d consider ponying up the $475,000 for the house at 2085 Shady Lane, Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin. Apparently the Favre family house has just gone on the market. Maybe a few days after Brett the Jet threw a record-setting 6 touchdown passes in one game?

So Much For The Sore Ankle. Brett the Jet Throws Six Touchdown Passes Against the Cardinals to Win Big.

Brett the New Jet threw a career-high and Jets-record six touchdown passes, tying with the last Jet who had any claim to fame, Broadway Joe Namath. New York took advantage of a series of mistakes by Arizona in a big second quarter before holding on to beat the Cardinals 56-35 on Sunday.

Guru’s Note: Ex Cal Golden Bear, now Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers hurt his right shoulder during a 30-21 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Packers don’t expect to know how serious the injury is until Monday.

Guru’s Note #2: While some would quibble that my frequent coverage of anything Brett, Golden Bears and Green Bay does not qualify as the new product development that’s this blog’s mantra, I would argue that football delivers new products every Saturday and Sunday.

No word on whether Dumpster Muffin was one of those cheerleading Treesitters.

Cal Bears Tap Into The Power of Video For Friends & Family Opening Game Promo.

BERKELEY - California head football coach Jeff Tedford has named sophomore Kevin Riley as the Golden Bears’ starting quarterback for their opener against Michigan State on Saturday, Aug. 30 at Memorial Stadium. Tedford made the announcement following Thursday afternoon’s preseason practice and said that senior Nate Longshore will also play in the opener.

The Golden Bears will need more than a viral video to play catch up this season.  Last year at this time, they were a nationally ranked football team with great potential.  We actually attended the game in which they were Number 2 for about ten minutes. This year?  All the Web 2.0 tricks, from Tedford’s blog to downloading free fan software, may not be able to compensate for that embarrassing showing in Palo Alto, where the Speedo’d Stanford marching band joyfully tromped on our Bear pride.

On the other hand, Golden Bear Olympians continue to do us proud in Beijing.

Negotiations Sacked. Brett On His Way To Green Bay for Training Camp.

The Milwaukee Journal updates the latest on the ongoing Favre-Green Bay Packers drama:

Negotiations dead; Favre to compete for starting job

By Tom Silverstein

Sunday, Aug 3 2008, 03:09 PM
Green Bay — The Green Bay Packers are through negotiating with quarterback Brett Favre on a marketing deal and they are anticipating him reporting for training camp Monday and being on the field as soon as he passes his physical, a Packers source said.

Another source close to the club, said that Favre will be allowed to compete with Aaron Rodgers for the starting job and won’t necessarily be the backup this season. Trade talks with Favre have not advanced and coach Mike McCarthy is expected to come up with a plan that will split the practice repetitions with Rodgers.

Click on the above link to read the whole sordid, completely unnecessary tale. Not everything is about business, TT. On the other hand, not all communication should be conducted via text message, either.

Brett Backs Pack Against The Wall, Files For Reinstatement.

I’m wearing my Bring Brett Back T-shirt as I type this latest update (trust me, I look slightly better than the pasty white guy in the photo) : ESPN reports that Brett Favre has officially filed for reinstatement. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is letting the team and the future Hall of Famer tap-dance it out for the next 24 hours in an attempt to come to a resolution.

Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Poll on Brett’s Possible Return

The latest jsonline.com poll:

If Brett Favre is indeed interested in playing again for the Packers, should the team welcome him back?

Yes (62.5%)

No (37.5%)

Total votes: 18,935 + 1 (mine!)

Apparently the only response from the legend himself is: “It’s all rumor.”

And yes, I realize the intended mission of this blog is supposed to be new products, especially marketing, branding, strategy, blah-blah. But it seems to me the ‘Brett Favre’ brand has plenty of existing equity and if Schlitz Classic can be a comeback success after 30 years, shouldn’t the Brett brand have a chance after less than 6 six months?

Source: Favre Has “An Itch To Play Again”

ESPN is reporting that Brett Favre may want to come out of retirement and report to training camp. The legendary quarterback hinted at this possibility while on Letterman last spring. While this Cheesehead is also a Golden Bear, which means Aaron Rogers is okay by me… there’s no one like #4.
